The Problem

Box and One Basketball had a product concept that could genuinely help kids improve — structured drills, streaks, rewards, tiered progression. But taking that concept from idea to a working app on iOS, Android, and tablet required coordinating a full development team, aligning on UX, managing the build across platforms, and making sure the experience felt cohesive everywhere.

Without strong project management, multi-platform app builds fall apart. Decisions get made in isolation, the experience diverges across devices, and launch keeps getting pushed.

What We Built

Joseph Darnell served as PM for the entire app build — coordinating the development team, aligning on UX decisions, managing the build across iOS, Android, and tablet form factors, and keeping the project moving from concept to launch.

The app combines physical basketball practice with digital rewards — streaks, points, and level progression — to keep kids engaged and coming back. The UX was designed to be simple enough for kids to navigate independently while robust enough to support a full tiered development system.

Getting an app onto both stores, working on phones and tablets, is harder than it sounds. Having a PM who kept everything aligned made it possible.

The System Architecture

Native app built for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play), optimized for both phone and tablet form factors. Features include streak tracking, point rewards, tiered player progression, structured drill libraries, and video-guided workouts.

The Results

A fully launched app available on the App Store and Google Play, optimized for phones and tablets. Kids can track their streaks, earn rewards, progress through levels, and follow structured basketball drills — all in a single, cohesive experience.

The app shipped across three platforms with a consistent experience and a clear player development system that works for kids at every level.
